I love to cook, so when we moved into our new house the first room I wanted to tackle was the kitchen. One of my first projects was adding a pot rack wall. I wanted all my pots and pans to be easily accessible, and look great too.
MATERIALS
1 2 x 3 x 8 wood cut into 3 30in pieces (I used reclaimed wood)
6 1/4 in x 4 in toggle bolts
6 1/4 in x 1 – 1/2 to 3 in Flat Washers
12 – 15 Screw Hooks (or how every many you need for your pots and pans)
Any wood stain of your choosing
Drill
My new neighbors were getting rid of some old wood, and I asked if I could have it. It was very dirty, but the price ($0) was right. So with lots of soap and water, and a little elbow grease, I had some “reclaimed” wood. I ended up washing off a lot of the charm of the wood so I decided to stain it. I love a dark wood color, and went with my old standby MinWax Dark Walnut.
I started off by measuring the space on the wall where I wanted the pot rack wall to go, and then cut my wood accordingly. I then decided on the placement of the wood. I wanted the pot rack to match up with the cabinet and counter. I also wanted to make sure there was enough space for the pots to fit. I held up the boards while Jesse marked their position on the wall. This pot rack wall was really easy to install. I usually do it all myself, but I needed more than two hands for this job. I held up the wood while Jesse screwed in the pilot holes, and toggle bolts.
The hooks were a little difficult to get in. I did the first one with my hands and that took forever! Then I came up with this simple trick. Add a hook into your electric drill and very slowly use it to screw the other hook into the wood. I’m sure there is a tool for that, but searching for it with a 2 and 3 year old in your cart was way too distracting.
